Age of Animal

Morning

Was wondering if anyone else found it annoying that the age for puppies does not change at the right age.

ie - a dog that is 16 weeks show as 3 months it should show as 4 months and 17 weeks show as 3 months as well. it only changes to 4 months at 18 weeks.
this cause some problem when vaccinating as you cant tell the age of the puppy.

Our old system use to show the age of the dog in week till they are 6 months, then worked in months untill they were 2 years. This makes aging of the animal much easier.
Is there a way that we can change this ourselves or is it for programming to do.

Re: Age of Animal

Hi Joss,The current implementation of the GetPatientAge function which is used to calculate the Age you refer to uses the following algorithm:1.  If the difference between current date and birth date is < 90 days then display in Days or Weeks.  Days if difference divisible by 7 otherwise  weeks. 2.  If difference is less than 2 years display in Months3.  Otherwise display in Years.Easy to change trigger point from 90 days to say 180 days if this is agreed to by everyone.CheersTony

Age of Animal

Thanks for explaining. Now this can only be fixed if everybody agrees is that right. I hope that everyone thinks that it is a good idea.

Thanks

Re: Age of Animal

Hi Joss,Yes, but if as frustrating as you say most people would agree.   Changes are pretty straight forward so I am happy to contribute them.CheersTony

Animal age

I think the change to 180 days would be very useful.

On a slightly related note would anyone else find the listing of patient age at every new visit/note added useful - I find scrolling back through histories I have to calcualte what age the patient was when looking at previous 'problems'.

Age of Animal

Yes i think this would be fantastic our old system had their age at each visit and it was very useful.

Animal Age

Hi everyone,

Given the strong response I have created an active development project here www.openvpms.org/project/animal-age-changes

I'm happy with 180 days. I have added the visit description change also. This is a derived value but I imagine to update the exisiting visits will need some development work and funding.

Whilst we are talking about ages, I do often get in trouble with my clients for saying Fluffy is 12 when clearly she is 13. OpenVPMS rounds down. Is it possible to have the months remainder expressed as part of the function if the age is greater then 1 year and the remainder is > 30 days? ie. 1 year and 10 days = 1 year old. 1 year and 32 days = 1 year 1 month.

Cheers,

Matt C
