External Edit - OpenWebStart stopped working

Hi,

We are using OpenWebStart to open our External Edit documents. It was working fine, but no longer allowing the documents to open in either the windows terminals or our macs. Would this be related to our version of OpenVPMS?

I've tried the troubleshooting and other steps on google.

Thanks,

Greta

Re: External Edit - OpenWebStart stopped working

I'm not having any issues running OpenWebStart 1.5 or 1.6 under Firefox or Chrome.

Note that security has tightened in recent years; both browsers prompt before launching any executables.

Firefox

On Firefox, you will be first prompted to save an 'externaledit.jnlp' file after clicking External Edit

Click Save File, and then select it from your download list. (Tools - Downloads, or Ctrl-J)

You will then be prompted again:

Click OK. This will launch OpenWebStart and then OpenOffice to edit your document.

Chrome

Chrome will prompt to keep or discard the externaledit.jnlp file on the bottom-left of the screen.

Click Keep, and then click the downloaded file to launch OpenWebStart/OpenOffice.

Re: External Edit - OpenWebStart stopped working

We have no issues using OpenVPMS 2.3 running on windows 11 (Chrome Version 103.0.5060.134 (Official Build) (64-bit))

The process I go thru is shown below

I will note that firefox has a feature that allows the JLNP file to be opened automatically but I dont use it personally.
