Setting a default number of copies printed

This topic comes from discussion at the recent users meeting. It is an enhancement of the Printing Multiple Copies project which has recently been un-stalled.

The original idea was to add a number selector to the interactive print dialog (eg. 1,2,3,4 etc). This would avoiding the need to press the print button multiple times was the original motivation and as Glen correctly suggested at the meeting, avoid the small delay between pressing print and being able to press it again.

There was a comment made that some documents have a fixed number of copies printed routinely. For example, 4 x admission labels. The idea would be that the default number in the above selector could be set within the Template/document description.

Setting a default number of copies printed (Developer Update)

Hi everyone (and especially the crew at Advanced Vet Care),

Tim was wondering if the Default print quantity or number of Copies should be used for non interactive printing as well? At the moment the specification mainly talks about populating the newly created "Copies" box in the interactive print dialog.

For example,

- You have a patient admission label that you always print 4 of.

- The Template is set to non interactive.

- You press print, 4 copies go to printer.

Cheers,

Matt C

Setting a default number of

Hi Matt,

I'm not sure if I am going to answer correctly as I am not 100% sure what you're asking.

With our patient admission label, I have altered the document to have 3 pages with exactly the same information on each page, so don't require it to print 4 times.

However, I can see that in the future other documents might benefit from having ability to print multiple times. Also may benefit other clinics to have admission labels or other documents print multiple times. Therefore, if it it not too much more develpment, I think do make it possible to use for non interactive printing as well.

Hope I've answered properly ;)

Setting a default number of copies printed (Costed)

Yep greta,

You answered fine!

So we will add the default quantity to the template description. And the default qty will be used whether

a) printing via the interactive dialog (when you can change the qty manually)

as well as when

b) printing without an interactive dialog.

The project has also been costed at $330.

Development will not commence until fully funded.
