This project has been put back into Developer Review whilst the sub  projects above were discussed further (13/10/10).

User support for Aim 5 has been received and added to the specification. Developers are yet to report back on cost/feasibilty.  (10/11/10).

Costing for Aim 5 has been received. Total costing has been calculated at $5140  (18/11/10).

The process would involve clicking a link in OpenVPMS and the document opening automatically (just in OpenOffice at this stage).

Editing would be performed as normal but then all you would have to do is click Save and the document in OpenVPMS will be updated!

Limitations at this stage:

1. Tim hasn't assessed versioning. In other words, the edited version will replace the document in OpenVPMS.

From the developers:
Editing is limited to existing documents.
It should be limited to:
* the most recent version of a document.
* .odt, .doc, .docx, .rtf document formats (basically anything that OpenOffice and Word support)

Letters, Attachments, and Investigations and Images that have an attachment document in a Word/OpenOffice format would be editable. This includes:

Patient, Customer & Supplier Letters and document attachments.

Patient Investigation documents

Patient Images (perhaps)

Documents that don't have Word/OpenOffice formats woudn't be editable.
This includes Attachments and Investigations with PDFs, and Images with .tiff, .gif, .png etc

Documents that are generated on demand wouldn't be supported, as they aren't saved i.e Forms

Macros that are part of the original template will be expanded when a Letter is created.
OpenVPMS macros will not be available during editing.

o        Despite great work to date to get Part 1 completed, the recent changes to Letters (much larger character allowance) has meant that this project has lost it’s support.

o        This project has been Cancelled after discussion.
