Consultation Workflow

Hi all

I was wondering if we could review and improve the consultation workflow to provide a better historical record.

To clarify currently the process I see used is the client is "Checked in" by the nurse.   The Appointment Reason is transferred to the visit reason - and the summary is left blank. In reality some clinics use the appointment reason as "checkup" and then put detail in the notes

The vet hits the consult button which opens into the clinical history at which point they probably hit the NEW button and add a new patient NOTE to the visit.

At no point are they given the option to update the visit summary box.  In effect, this means it's rarely used unless manually changed.

If the pet access's the history from the patient medical record they can hit the 'Add Visit and Note' button which does give an editable summary box.

I would suggest that when the vet adds a new NOTE or NEW PROBLEM, the context window displays both the visit reason and summary and (if not locked via medical record locking )  allow them to be updated.

This will improve the record-keeping of most clinics substantially.

Re: Consultation Workflow

During consult, you can easily edit the Visit on the Summary tab to change both the visit reason and the summary.

Re: Consultation Workflow

I recognise you can click on the summary and edit it...but in practice it doesnt happen.  If you compare the consult workflow to what is achieved by the Add Visit and Note button in the patient medical history window you can see the difference in workflow.

Staff just dont update the summary they write the diagnosis and reason in the clinical note. - which for medical record keeping is enough, however if want a summary view of a long patient history with the notes removed ...you get a list that says

Date - Checkup -

Date - Checkup -

etc

Not really helpful - hence the suggestion

Re: Consultation Workflow

Hi there,

Also with the summary box would it be possible to make this a "type" of medical record like weight, note, medication etc so you could choose the type "summary" and "mail" a summarised report of visits rather than the full notes?

Sorry if this is already available and I have missed it.

Thanks,

Bernadette

Re: Consultation Workflow

When you click Mail, it will mail the records selected by the filters. So if you select Type = Note, and enter a date range, it will only email Note records in the date range.
