Email will not send due to "Unable to invoke Cipher due to bad padding" ??

Good afternoon,

We had a server fail so we had to regenerate a live system using a backup server and restoring the last backup.  It seems all ok but when you try to email from the system you get the following message :

Has anyone seen this one?  Any help much appreciated.

Thanks for your help.
Regards Des

======================================================

The server that failed was running 2.2.1 but the backup server was running 2.1.1 so during the process of trying to get them back on air I had to do a upgrade on the fly .... which I totally messed up. The problem was that components of the upgrade process were missing so the installation "sort of worked" but key parts did not.  I need to get my head around and document the upgrade process using the "properties" file.

Lucky for us Tony was able to sort out the problem easily!

Re: Email will not send due to "Unable to invoke Cipher due ...

Not sure. What version of java are you running?

If you are running OpenVPMS 2.2, it should be Java 8 update 161 or higher as per https://www.openvpms.org/documentation/csh/2.2/topics/installing-openvpm...

Re: Email will not send due to "Unable to invoke Cipher due ...

Hi Tim,

Thanks very much for the pointer and prompt feedback!!

I have updated the Java version to 1.8.0_221 but it was running 1.8.0_171 originally so I think I was ok.  I have been fighting the problem for a while and I have found that some reason none of the plugins has been loaded? (plugins are new to me!!)

The openvpms log tells me that there is a problem with the directory (see below)

................................................................................

01 Jun 2021 23:13:09,617  INFO PharmacyOrderDiscontinuationScheduler,localhost-startStop-1:193 -  - Pharmacy order discontinuation is scheduled to occur every 30 minutes for invoices that have been finalised for 60 minutes
01 Jun 2021 23:13:09,656 ERROR ConfigurablePluginManager,localhost-startStop-1:255 -  - Failed to start the plugin manager
java.lang.IllegalStateException: Invalid plugin directory: c:\openvpms\current\plugins
................................................................................................................

But there is a current link in the Openvpms folder which points at OpenVPMS-Release-2.2.1 which is has the plugin folder so I am not sure what is going on?

Any help much appreciated!  I attached the Openvpms log if that helps.

Best regards and thanks for your help.

Re: Email will not send due to "Unable to invoke Cipher due ...

Plugins are used for 3rd party integration with Deputy, IDEXX VetConnect PLUS, Zoetis Vetscan FUSE, PetSure etc.

Verify your link is correct by running:

  dir c:\openvpms\current\plugins

in a command prompt, and that the user running Tomcat can also access it.

Also, your logs indicate that the Document Loader Job can't read the c:\openvpms\import\in directory.

With regards to the Cipher error, did you also restore the openvpms.properties file from backup?

Re: Email will not send due to "Unable to invoke Cipher due ...

Again thanks for you prompt reply and help!!

I had created the wrong type of link which was the problem ..."mklink" is new to me ... shows my age!!

I have now fixed it so the plugins are loaded. The link is shared and I have tested it from the Openvpms account and it can do a directory of the link so it seems to be ok.

In terms of the import directory ... I have set it to shared so I am assuming that will fix the document loader problem. The properties file is in the conf folder so I am assuming all is ok?

I have restarted Tomcat a couple of times after each change but still get the email error I had originally when I try to send an email?

I have attached the new log file showing current status.

Re: Email will not send due to "Unable to invoke Cipher due ...

Try re-entering the Mail Server password.

If that works, it indicates the openvpms.properties file is not the same as the prior installation.
You will need to update any other 3rd-party passwords as well (e.g. PetSure, Smartflow Sheet etc).

Re: Email will not send due to "Unable to invoke Cipher due ...

Hi Tim,

Again thanks for the help and support ...much appreciated!

I have suggested that they bring Tony in to consult on this.  He built the original configuration on the server that crashed so he will know what silly things I might have done.

Yesterday they just had the blue screen of death ... so at least now he can get onto a somewhat running system.

Best regards
Des
PS If you make it to WA email me and I will get you a bottle of wine!!
