Printing anything

Hi there, first post here despite 6 years browsing (waves).

Trying to get my own installation up and running. Have 1.7.1 running on Win 8.1 laptop and run the client through current version Firefox. System runs fine. Survived the Java update thanks to the sysadmin friend who helped handhold me through initial installation.

Have never been able to print anything. Managed to knock over the first 2 probs - Access to a printer and then successfully connecting to OpenOffice, but now I am brickwalled at access to templates. The biggest issues I can see are that my >Reporting>Reports page was totally empty, as was >Administration>Templates.

In the file folder
C:\openVPMS\openvpms-release-1.7.1\reports
I can see swags of *.jrxml files and *.odt files. So I am lost as to why the software doesn't have any of them listed anywhere.

I have manually made a couple of templates uploading my own .ODT blank documents, but havn't had any joy getting anything to use them.

I have tried running the iReports software. First thing it wants to do is connect to a database. I haven't had any success pointing it to my OpenVPMS installation. I tried both
jdbc:mysql://localhost:8080/openvpms
and
jdbc:mysql://localhost:8080/openvpms/app/1
and gave it my openvpms account username and password but it timed out after a while saying
"SQL problems: Communications link failure"
(It fails quicker without the port number saying access denied)

I have read through much user and implementor documentation and can't find much on this at all.

Appreciate any help.

Re: Printing anything

Take a look at the readme.txt file located in the home directory of the OpenVPMS installation. Section 1.7 tells you how to load the document templates.

Re: Printing anything

Gary - the iReports database connection is covered in http://www.openvpms.org/documentation/ireports-tips-and-tricks [I should probably move this into http://www.openvpms.org/documentation/csh/1.8/reference/reportsForms ].

I think that the bit where you are going wrong is "gave it my openvpms account username and password" - what is needed is the user name and password to access the OpenVPMS sql database - normally both 'openvpms' in a standard system.

HOWEVER - as Tim A has indicated the real problem is that you have not used template load to load the templates. You only need iReports to edit/create jxrml reports.

Re: Printing anything

This is great guys. I have now successfully run the template loading and I am able to print generic documents.

Many thanks for that.

Also now connected to iReports.

Heh heh, the only thing that currently appears to be failing is the Customer Invoice - the one I tried to manually create myself. I uploaded my own letterhead.odt document and of course when invoked that is all it produces. I'll keep working on that.
