Jasper Reports has a openoffice plugin built in....so its now a full report editing and saving suite.

Jasper Reports has been able to export to ODT for some time. Under what circumstances would you want to do this?

Sorry I am not talking about exporting - I am saying that the software can open an existing report that is an ODT file - edit it and save it - it means when we are editing reports en mass like an upgrade to 1.8 might require I can do it all in 1 program ...under git control
