Windows 10/Edge

I have installed Windows 10 on one of my test systems.  The install was painless.

I have had a quick play with the Edge browser and it appears to work flawlessly. [Apart for not being able to get it to open the Alt-F1 page in a new tab.]

Is there something specific that I should check?

Re: Windows 10/Edge

One minor issue is that the 'Open new browser window' button doesn't open a new window of the same size.

Re: Windows 10/Edge

Also, OpenVPMS's Open a New Browser Window opens in a new small window.

Conclusion: wait 6 months and try again.

Re: Windows 10/Edge

Haha, I love your conclusion Tim!

I installed Windows 10 Techincal Preview a couple of months ago on a test system too and I'm happy to report the installation was fine. Personally, I think Windows 10's user interface is much much improved from Windows 8 (thank goodness)! Need a bit of getting use to with Edge but we have always been using Firefox as our main browser anyway. The only need to run IE in the past was to get onto the NSW Companion Animal Registry's website as Firefox had compatibility issue with their pages in the past.

Re: Windows 10/Edge

Hi guys, I am getting a new computer that is running windows 10 and I want to install openvpms on it. It seems like there are just minor issues? Any updates on that Anthony and Tim? Cheers.

Re: Windows 10/Edge

The comments above dont really prevent OpenVPMS on windows 10 they just mean your better not using the standard browser that comes with the package.

Re: Windows 10/Edge

Agreed - Win10 ==OK, but Edge== not OK.  Just use Firefox or Chrome as the browser.

Caveats: I still have not switched my main development system to Win 10, and when I asked the practice manager what she wanted to do about Win 10 on the workstations, she said 'Win 7 works - leave it alone'. Hence apart from upgrading one non-critial test system to Win 10, I have no experience with Win 10.  I will re-assess the situation after Christmas.

Re: Windows 10/Edge

Our production server was upgraded from Win 7 to the latest Win 10 build last week. There was no issue with OpenVPMS. Windows has essentially left everything as is (thew!) except the Windows Administrator account was hidden by default. A quick googling found a simple solution if logging into that account is needed:

Run command prompt as an administrator, then enter the command:

net user administrator /active:yes

Sign off, then the Administrator account would be available for selection.

Note: I had another user profile with administration rights prior when running Win 7, therefore I could access the command prompt as an administrator above. I'm not sure what would happen if the machine did not have user accounts with administrator privilege. Another work around may be required.
