Very slow to access records etc

Hi,

The ladies are expressing their displeasure at how long it is taking to do virtually any task in Openvpms. Trying to open a record, change a date, etc etc can take 20 seconds plus with a please wait and the circling widget taunting them. Sometimes however you can just click from one to the other instantaneously but more often not. Occurs even when opening on the server itself.

This has been a long term issue that is getting worse.

We have 2 terminals + the server. Only 2 staff accessing the program at one time (different records/tasks)

We are only a 1 1/2 vet practice so the database isnt that large.

Currently version 2.1.2.

Mixed operating systems Sever windows 10 pro. Consult Win7, Reception XP though the issues still present when accessing Server directly.

Appreciate any suggestions to speed things up.

Much thanks

Geoff

Re: Very slow to access records etc

Hey Geoff,

Typically this type of issue relates purely to setup and specifically to the setup of tomcat java and Mysql.

Can you share your Tomcat service setup, specifically your min and max java memory settings.  I would suggets min 1G and Max of 2G.

see  https://www.openvpms.org/documentation/installing-openvpms-windows-10  section 8

Mysql buffers is also very important as your database grows.  This setting is more difficult to update and location of the config file is mysql version dependent.  But we recommend a minimum value of 3G of buffer .. the default is a lot less and will make things slow if not updated.

Cheers
Tony

Re: Very slow to access records etc

I would also add I have seen specific issues where people don't clear the till OR do a deposit.  The system has to cache all those entries - and gets bogged down.

Re: Very slow to access records etc

So, just asking for a friend ...

Performance may be affected by not doing deposits?

So ... my friend ... should be making sure to do the deposit thing that he has never, ever looked at?

Re: Very slow to access records etc

Yes I believe I saw one setup  - locally on a laptop that had never had them done for 4 years.

So the till was never cleared and deposits never done.  We cleared the till  - and peformed the deposit function and the whole system definitely sped up

Tim A did explain why - but it was an older version and I am not sure but Tim A may have improved the way its cached now So it may not impact as much

Re: Very slow to access records etc

Hi Geoff,

Who setup your openvpms local installation initially ..  can they share the settings for Tomcat memory and Mysql buffers you have setup currently ?

Cheers
Tony
