New Printer not appearing

Hi,

I have just added a new network printer (Canon MFC) and label printer (Brother).

I can not (for the life of me) get them to appear within the OpenVPMS app.

They are installed on the server. Both Server and client can print (from Windows).

How do I get these new printers to appear within OpenVPMS?

Have you tried restarting Tomcat?

I have restarted the tomcat7 services. I have also rebooted the server.

Hi James,

One thing to check is that the printers are setup on the user that is running the Tomcat service.  This is particularly the case for shared printer setups on servers where the printer is on setup for the current logged in user not for every user.

In this case you need to log in as the Tomcat user (in the install notes we suggest a openvpms service user is created and runs tomcat) and create the printers and make sure they persist.

If you are using local printers (serial, parallel, tcp etc) then shoudl be seen by tomcat.

You a champ! It was the profile for the openvpms user account.

I logged in and created the printers, then restarted tomcat service...hey presto!

Gald that worked for you.

One thing to note is on later java version on windows and especially linux java versions you dont require the tomcat restart to see the new printers.  Seems to check regularly for updates to print service.  May sometimes need to wait a minute or two after printer created. :-)
