Program updates

Following discussion with Tony we have set automatic OpenOffice updates off - does this also apply to Firefox and Java? If so will we be instructed when to install such updates or will these be automatically done when OpenVPMS is updated?

Re: Program updates

Hi Nick,

My preference is to turn off updates to Java, Open Office and Firefox and manage these manually. If OpenVPMS needs an upgraded version to work with the release notes will indicate this but typically this would be rare. The chance of one of the above program updates causing some problem is greater so not worth the risk.

Cheers Tony

Re: Program Updates

Hi Tony,

Do you have a list of version numbers that are confirmed working for openVPMS v1.2

I am just doing a new install and would like to have the highest useable versions installed.

The installation notes make no mention of the firefox version, and the openoffice is listed as 2.2.1, however I did a previous install using 3.0.1 which was working. (now broken, hence the new install)

Thanks

Mark

Re: Re: Program Updates

Hi Mark,

With the latest 1.3 beta version I have been using Firefox 3, OpenOffice 3 and Java JDK 1.6 with no known issues. I have not tried the production 1.2 version against these versions but I do know 1.2 will not work with JDK 1.6 without some modifications.

Also I think some minor program updates may cause issues so so far I have limited production sites to 2.4 Open Office and JDK 1.5. Have some sites using Firefox 3 without issue though ...

Cheers Tony
