Does anyone know what is the storage requirements for installation and ongoing operation? I was thinking of getting a 126GB SSD laptop and also use cloud storage.

Re: storage requirements

Esh - 126GB should be fine.

Our Hong Kong database (for a system that has 13 years worth of data and  some 19000 customers on the books) is some 12GB - the largest chunk of which is the patient documents (some 37000 of them).

If you are going to backup to the cloud, I hope that you have good bandwidth.

If you can buy the laptop with 16GB of RAM, do so. We run mysql with some 9GB of memory and thus it holds most of the working database in memory.

If you are happy to carry the weight, one of the big gaming laptops with an SSD and a standard hard drive gives the speed of the SSD and safety of backing up to the conventional disk. [I really like my Dell Alienware 17 but it is heavy.] But also backup to an external hard disk in case you leave the laptop in the taxi.
