System shutdown warnings - how to?

In the current RxWorks system I manage, users access RxWorks running on a Win2003 server usng the Remote Desk Top facility. When I have to do a system restart, I can put up a series of messages on the users screen saying 'System Restart in xxx minutes - finish your work and log off'.

When we switch to OPV, users will access the system via a browser.

Am I correct in thinking that there is no way to do the same sort of thing with OPV - that is I cannot push a warning message prominently onto the browser screen.  Yes - I can send a message to all saying 'planned system restart at 0430 Thurs 1 Aug', but this doesn't have the same impact.

I thought about changing the screen background colour to red by adjusting the default style file, but this change is not seen until there is a Tomcat restart.  What would be nice would be a system alert panel in the left hand panel - just like the customer & patient alerts.

Any suggestions?

[This is a 24/7/365 business - from 9pm to 8am there are 3 staff on duty - so there is no window when you know that there is nothing happening because all staff are home in bed.]

Re: System shutdown warnings - how to?

Your nice.

We use a windows domain, with a 2003 DC, so I just broad cast to each workstation that a shutdown will occurr in 30 minutes of all PC's.  Repeat the broadcast every 10m then every 5m then 1m , then a 30 sec warning, then I reboot everything

server first followed by each workstation.
