Drop Down List - Speed

Hi All... :)

In most OpenVPMS installs I have seen the drop down lists (suburb, species, breed etc) allow you to type 2 to 3 characters (depending on how fast a typer you are!) before it resets. I have just encountered a clinic where you are not able to type more than one character before it resets. It makes working in these lists very cumbersome.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? Does anyone know whether this speed is set within OpenVPMS install or whether it is a setting in Mozilla or on the network?

Cheers :)

Drop Down List - Speed

What do you mean by resets?

Do you get the same behaviour if you use the up/down arrows to select an item in the drop down?

Re: Drop Down List - Speed

Hi Tim,  Sorry for the delay between messages!...  In any of the drop down lists - the system only responds to the first letter you type and then resets...  On all the other systems I have seen the system seems to respond to at least 2 letters (possibily 3 for a fast typer) i.e.  For the suburb Greenwood... At the clinic with the problem when you type GR to drop you down to suburbs starting with GR it first jumps to the first suburb in the list which starts with a G and then to the first suburb in the list which starts with an R. So the closest you can get to what you want is the first letter. For all the other clinics I have worked with typing GR would drop you to the first suburb in the list that started with GR and you could scroll / arrow from there. If you start at the top of the list and just arrow down or scroll down its fine - but this is a very long winded exercise for the long lists like suburb and breed.  Is there somewhere we can change the settings for drop down lists so that they can type at least 2 characters before it starts the search from scratch again? (Not sure whether this is an OpenVPMS or a network setting?) Cheers :)  Gerrie   Gerrie Cooney BSc Business Development Consultant  Essentia Consulting

Re: Drop Down List - Speed

Re: [OpenVPMS Users] Drop Down List - Speed Hi Gerrie, I had a talk to developers about this and it seems that this behaviour is browser specific.  We actually send all the lookup data up to the browser and the browser is responsible for the drop down and select behaviour you are seeing.   I am not sure why is differs between sites but maybe some browser setting ?  I suggest integrator/implementer would need to play with settings on site to ascertain reason. Unfortunately not something we can address in code. Cheers Tony On 15/07/09 11:01 AM, "Gerrie Cooney" :

Re: Drop Down List - Speed

Fabulous ... :) Thanks Tony! That makes sense too - because this site is using IE as their browser.. All other clinics I have dealt with use Firefox... I will refer the problem to the integrator... :)  Cheers! Gerrie   Gerrie Cooney BSc Business Development Consultant  Essentia Consulting
